Regarding Sophie Dahl and the Hut

Statement from The Roald Dahl Musuem and Story Centre

On Radio 4’s Today programme on 13 September, Sophie Dahl did not ask the public for funds to save the hut where her grandfather, Roald Dahl, wrote his legendary children’s books. No appeal to the public was made, nor was the interview intended to be seen as such an appeal. The aim was to highlight a genuinely exciting project, preserving for the public and future generations the unique place where Roald Dahl’s imagination gave birth to his much-loved creations.

Much of the funding is already in place to ‘Save the Hut’ and has come from the Dahl family, who are huge supporters of all our work at the Museum and of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, a paediatric neurology and haematology charity. To ‘Save the Hut’ we are also seeking funds from charitable institutions and trusts that support museums, literacy and creative education, as well as patrons of the arts and companies involved in the publishing and licensing of Roald Dahl’s work.

The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is making no public appeal for funds.

Sophie’s contribution to our work is as our Patron, giving freely her time and assistance to the two charities that bear her grandfather’s name. Sophie is not a beneficiary of the Roald Dahl Estate, nor a trustee of it.

The Roald Dahl Museum will continue sharing with the author’s fans our excitement about preserving a place in which his many fantastic characters were dreamt up. We remain thrilled at the prospect and look forward to the many visitors that we hope will come and see it. We will keep you updated as the plans move forward.
